It is a discontinued model. The new stock number signifies Aesperical Lens Technology. |

Chris, Just how much better are the new ones with ALT? How do rate these discontinued models (as good as the Pentax WP or better)? Dave |

The use of aspherical lenses (A.L.T. Technology) increases pin-sharp definition, providing higher contrast and detail resolution across the entire image field. Thanks to the well-established M* coating of the lenses for minimizing optical reflection and phase-corrected prisms, the new MINOX glass also boasts high light transmission. These outstanding features are ideal for people wearing glasses, because the built-in eyepieces specially designed for wearers of glasses provide an extremely large field of view which is also experienced in full by people wearing glasses, in combination with the extendible eyecups.
The new Minox as well as the Pentax WP (discontinued and replaced w/ DCF/SP are first class binoculars with aespherical lenses, phase coating, proprietary coatings, long eye relief and durable construction. I feel the Minox has better resolution due to their M* coating but the Pentax is constructed better and can with stand more abuse (not to mention its JIS6 water proof rating).
For bird watching and casual use go with the Minox. For extreme use in unfavorable conditions go with the Pentax. Either way you will get a first class binocular. |
