I'm looking for a variable scope for my 30-06 Encore. I have a 2 x 7 Burris on another pistol and have always been dissapointed withe the eye relief with it after 4 X . Is the Leupold my only option?

What are you hunting? If it's MI deer, a 2.5 or 4 (fixed) would be nice and the eye relief would not change.
4X loopie has 17" eye relief. |

I want to be able to use it out west. 300 yard shots would not be out of the question, so I'm hoping for more power.

Not "out of the question" but very difficult. Sound like you are going to have to live with a variable.
Since a scoped 16" Encore weighs as much as an ultralight rifle the "out west" prize may not be worth the quest. |

Oh its worth it. I hunt exclusively with handguns. I have never killed a deer with a rifle, only with Handguns and my bow, and I have taken a lot of deer. There is nothing as satisfiying as the challenge of hunting with handgun.(As far as hunting goes)

We used to hunt mtn. deer/plains antelope with our custom XP's outfitted with the 4X Leupolds, and took them at long-range a few times with no problem. I wouldn't worry too much about magnification (if u're only hunting big game), and work out the eye relief issue u're having. I like the 3-12X Burris's on most of my big game HG's, BUT i did have to get Near bases to move the scopes forward on the guns some due to the long "IHMSA-type" eye relief they put in these scopes. The Near base makes it what i refer to as "rockchuck useable", i.e. u can use it aiming uphill from the prone position as it moves it about 1.5" further forward. I don't know if it'll work on the TC's tho. Might check over @ www.specialtypistols.infopop.cc/eve Some of the guys there'll know what to do for sure.

Funny I would have said that about my bow. Anyway, I had a Burris 3-12x32 Handgun Scope with balistic plex. It sucked, and was virtually worthless over about 6x. I would recommend the Leupold 2.5-8x32 it is more compact and works better. No its not your only option I have a 1x burris that is on my Encore 45-70 pistol that works great. I just walk closer.

A fellow Encore hunter says he uses a rifle scope for hunting. Being really new to hunting Encores, do many..most..few..any hunters use rifle scope with encores? What is the difficulty in using rifle scopes with Encores. Thanks |
