Hi,

I just ordered a pair of Steiner Big Eye 25x80 Observer binos.  I guess we will see how they work when they get here.  I live in Spain on the beach and it will be interesting to see how they stack up.

I have a pair of 7x32 Steiner Safaris.  I bought them in Crete, Greece while on a mission and they served their purpose.  I would rate them as a 7 as far as E200 binos go, and a 3 over all (compared with my Swarovski EL's (but that's not fair is it)).  Optical clairity is decent, the only down side is the lack of a focusing wheel.  You just adjust them to your eyes and they are good from 0 to infinity.  If you beleive this I have some ocean front property in Madrid for sale very cheap.

So for under $600 I expect the new 25x80 Obserevers to be adequate for my Ibex forays this fall near Ronda, but not as perfect as a pair of IS Zeiss 20x80s.

Adios,

Seth

They are way better than the entry level Safaris you have.  The individual eye focus does work very well.  Your 25x80's should come with a tripod adapter.....that would be nice on your patio checking out the beach.  When using them "hand held" try moving your hands all they way out around the objectives.  You can hold them much steadier this way.

I GOT THEM!

Ok, they are huge!  Much the same as two spotting scopes sharing a hinge.  I can see peoples faces at about 1700 meters.  Can't wait to take them chamois hunting this fall.

I reccomend them if your in that price range and need big eye binoculars.  I do reccomend a tripod, as there is no way to hold them steady.  $600 buys quite a bit of glass!

Where are you hunting chamois?  I'm flying to Austria Sept. 11th to hunt them in the alps.  I was lucky enough to draw a class 1 permit.

I have some contacts near Gmund in Karnten.  The price is about $2900 for one and a 3 day hunt.  I have used the Danish Booking agency Diana on a number of European hunts.  They only animal in Austria they book for is Chamois.  The Austrians and Germans are fantastic people.  Food is great, service is great (even on the airlines), scenery is fantastic, really looking forward to it.

I am waiting on Ulla Fregerslev to get back from Summer leave so I can get the ball rolling.  She is their booking agent for Austria and most English speaking countries.  I am trying to work it for November or December.

You can also hunt on Count Bucher's place with the Hunting Consortium.  It's kind of like our American 777 or YO Ranches.  They have something like 20 thousand acres fenced there.  Tons of game, and no point restrictions.  You pay for what you take and they won't keep you from taking bigger trophys.  Price is higher though.  All chamois are $1500 and the daily rate is $450.  I am not too sure what part of Austria that's in though.  I haven't been with them.

I am going to try and find a lower priced ibex hunt here in Spain, and do the same Chamois hunt with www.diana.dk hopefully all will work out.  I have to go to South America in late December early January.  So I am still awaiting those dates, so I can book.
