Looking for insights about turkey scopes. I have a budget of around $300 or less. I want the scope to be low power (I won't be sniping at 200yd turkeys). So I'm looking at something like the Pentax Lightseeker in 2.5x, or Nikon's Monarch in 1.5-4.5x. (I don't need a variable, but Nikon's fixed powers seem to start around 4x, which is higher than I would like.)
I'm looking for a few key things: Ruggedness, good optics -with particularly good low light performance, and be on the compact side. I don't care much about reticle types. Camo finish would be nice, but matte is also fine.
Does anyone have experience/recommendations with these two? Or is there something else in this price range I should be looking at? Don't worry too much about the budget. If there's something for $350 that's just incredible I would love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Ben |

Have you considered a red dot or holographic sight? I have a Millett Multi-Dot on my gun now, and think that I'm about to replace it with an Eotech. I like the red dots for turkeys. I don't need any magnification and the gun can be aimed and fired accurately regardless of cheek weld or eye position.

Thanks trkyshootr. I actually ended up getting a lightseeker 2.5x. Though I haven't shot a turkey with it yet I think I like it so far. I really wanted the extra light and the slight magnification.
Season opens tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!.

Yeah, good luck. Our last day (in Alabama) was yesterday and I'm already hyped for next season.
I bet that your new Pentax will work nicely. I can see where a little magnification might be helpful. I have just, after a couple of years of use, finally realized that this Millett red dot has a significant red flare from the objective lens. It'll be gone soon, replaced, I expect, by the Eotech.
Again, good luck and safe hunting! |
