Here in California it is scary, there is not a whole lot of good knowledgable shooters. There is either very good or very bad with few inbetween. The shops that sell sporting goods are even worse sometimes. There are very few just good gun shops left in California now due to the laws. It is home to USOpticsthough.

i really hate going to places that sell guns and scopes, a lot of the times i can tell them more about the products than they can tell another customer, i dont dare ask them a question, cause if i  dont know the answer a lot of the time they wont have a clue, i remember one time i was at a fairly sizable place buying some factory ammo, and the 25 wssm hadnt been out long, i had one of the first m70 25 wssm in the state of mn i was told, but anyways i went to look at the selection of factory ammo, and i had a couple of boxes in my hand they were $20 a box so not bad at all, and a salesman from the adjoing firearms dept saw me walked over and asked me if "i was finding what i needed" i said yes, he saw my boxes and said are you expecting a rifle soon or are you dreaming and buying shells now, i said no i have the rifle already its sitting at home i needed some shells for it, he looked at me with mass confusion on his face and said what do you mean you already have one at home, we dont even have one of those between our 5 stores so i doubt you have one, i said ok well sucks to be you, but i know i got one at home, he was like what ever man. funny i thought.

I stay away from all of them and buy strictly online for some time now. This led me to this great forum,so now I buy for my familily and I and for my customers and chat with all of you online on my latest.  It has worked out very well so far.

i buy most of my stuff from a small mom and pop type place the guy gives me stuff at his cost most of the time and the people he employs are very optic and fire arms savy, so i dont run into any problems.

I use the Nosler BTs on my high powered Wbys. for long range hunting, so by the time they reach the target, velocity and energy has diminshed.  But, I would agree, in larger calibers for shorter distances, you are right.  What I am doing is sort of, ballistically reproducing a shorter distance scenario.  Have not heard from you in a while on the pm.  I have been busy and not been able to post much.
