I recently bought a new Ruger Frontier Scout Rifle. What would be the best scout scope for this rifle??? I want something with variable power range. Can the pistol scopes be used instead of a riflescope???

Welcome to The OT.
Friend, you may want to post this question on the Rifle Scope forum. Mucho more traffic there than here.
Good shooting! |

To::::: cbighill,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Since I am fairly new to this forum and in browsing over many topics of interest, I noticed your 1/27/07 post regarding your new Ruger M77 Frontier scout rifle w/ the 16.5" barrel!!!!.................Well! I too bought one this past March chambered in the 300 WSM! What caliber did you get? How do you like it so far? I am sure that by now you have a scope mounted. What scope did you finally choose?...........For now, I stayed with a conventionally mounted scope over the action, mounting a Bushnell Elite 4200 3x9. I`ll get a scout type scope later..........It`s been almost 4 months since your original post. Hopefully you, or perhaps other Ruger M77 Frontier owners viewing this, will respond to exchange thoughts, scope choices and opinions on what I believe to be the best compact rifle on the market......A great little handy rifle to carry in the field as I found out on my most recent boar/piggy hunt!.........Looking forward to replies from any Ruger Frontier owners out there, either on this site or at my e/mail address which is.................bigjet51@sbcglobal.net................... ...............Assuming I get some responses, this should be interesting!.....

The gun was chambered in 300WSM. Mounted a Leupold 2.5 x 28 FX-2 Scout scope. Gun shot great, scope was great, but I was not satisfied with magnification. I wanted a variable with a heavy duplex reticle, but no one could reccommend a good one to fit this gun. I traded the gun for a Remington 697 in 350mm Rem Mag and mounted a Leupold European 30mm 2x7x33 with German #4 Reticle. Thanks cbighill

..........Sorry to read that you traded your Ruger for another rifle. I`m very surprised that no one was able to give you a good reco on a good variable scout scope. I wish that I would have seen your original post earlier. Although it doesn`t matter now, I`ve read good articles on the Nikon 2.5 x 8 UCC EER, a handgun scope, which can also be used as a scout rifle scope. I`ll probably buy that one and have two scopes to play with.........Even though Ruger, in their owners manual, does not recommend a conventionally mounted scope for recoil purposes, they nevertheless, have the built-in base to do so! Did you by chance contemplate a conventionally mounted scope? Just a little curious..............The 350 Rem. Mag. is becoming more popular and in looking at the ballistic specs, I have no doubt it`s capabilities to be an excellent elk, moose and big bear buster!...............Good luck with your Remington!..........Thanks for the reply,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Big Squeeze!
