Started cooking today... I'm a little late and will have to do double duty today and tomorrow, but it is all fun.  The house already smells heavenly.  My youngest daughter arrived last night (picked her up at the airport).  She has to work every day but Thursday.

It's Thanksgiving...Turkey of course.  I started to fix a ham, as well, this year, but my EMT daughter has to work and my oldest just moved to Hawaii so that would create WAY too much food.  My youngest is home, but may have to be traveling for Christmas... Amazon keeps her jumping... so i'm fixing the cranberry/wild cherry relish, parsnip vichyssoise, spiced butternut squash, pear and apple compote, and Christmas Bread Pudding (orange/cranberry panettone bread with my amaretto sauce) that usually goes with Christmas dinner.  With the turkey will be my own southern cornbread and sausage (deer sausage) dressing.  Since I cut back on the "normal" plans, I was able to get away with starting cooking a day late.  Just took the bread pudding bread and cornbread out of the oven.   It has to dry overnight.  Will probably finish the day with the pear and apple compote.  Tomorrow I have to start the brining of the turkey and will actually make the bread pudding and will make the first stage of the vichyssoise.  Wednesday will start the yeast rolls and the butternut squash and make up the cranberry/cherry relish.  Thursday morning will put finishing touches on all the dishes and start cooking the turkey around 1130 for a sit down at 1500.

I finished the pear and apple compote last night... with a slightly altered recipe... turned out very well.  When my wife and daughter tasted it, they both just said..."Oh...my... gosh... let's just eat it now".  I'm in full "chef mode", now... already started this morning and will probably end up about 9 or 10 tonight.  Time to get serious...

Turkey brining process underway and completed vichyssoise and bread pudding today.  Toughest stuff is finished.
All this "chief cook and bottle washer" stuff is really cramping my style.  I didn't fire a single round today and only 12 7.62x39 yesterday.

From left to right... serving dish for compote (can't put it in there yet, dish wont' fit in either of my refrigerators with all the other stuff in there), spiced butternut squash, cranbertty/cherry relish and center front is the bread pudding with amaretto sauce. I'm making the dressing now then all I have to do tomorrow is heat everything up and serve.

Me and Meghan and gang made a campfire out in the backyard and got all covered up with woodsmoke. We had fun.

They had just cut down five oak trees that needed to be gone and so we had PLENTY OF FIREWOOD.....
