I use hiking poles when I hunt, especially when backpack hunting. Here in Nevada we have opportunities for long range shots and shooting sticks are a great help with that.

I was put on to Quick stiX in the Long Range Hunting forums and am d@mn happy I was. They consist of two black discs of Delrin type high impact plastic ("engineering grade polymer") each one the diameter of a silver dollar and about 1/2" thick. They mate with male and female halves with a twist.

Clip them on your hiking poles just below the handles and screw the stainless steel bolts tight. That's it, you're ready to go. Mount them so when your poles are mated into a shooting sticks "X" the handle straps  hang on the outside of the X so they are not in the way of your rifle or scope picture.

This is the lightest and least expensive way to have good solid shooting sticks that instantly mate. No fumbling, just mate and twist, mount your rifle aim and shoot.

Some "live fire" practice will give you confidence in them and yourself.

There are no comfortable packs - some are merely less uncomfortable than others.
