Hi, Just bought these from a contact. They are former GDR optics. They have a German NSN, which was assigned to items taken over after unification as far as I understand it. The laser has 1000 mtr range and is supposed to be functional. That is yet to be tested. But fun I think and a bit unusual. Waiting for them to be delivered, so impatient until then, Anybody got experience of these? |

First thing I'll be checking is the power train. He says it was working when he bought it, but he has not powered it up since then. It might need some tweeking I think, electronics don't take kindly to sitting around doing nothing.

So picked these up today, there is a lot of ancillary stuff that goes with it. At the weekend I shall put it all out and take photos. The battery packs are a belt of 1.2v 4ah batteries.

Photos of it all together. A cap is missing from the battery
bandolier, so have asked the vendor to have a look around for it.
Otherwise will have to make one. Considering its field use for
'squadies' its a bit iffy on mounting it to the tripod, does not simply
drop into place, the tripod mount is beveled and the whole sits on it
like a gimbal mounting. So need to order batteries next. The optics are good though |

No, Nothing in the way of manuals, but then I don't read Polish, too many Z's and W's. I'm going see if my Polish army contacts can get anything. but not holding my breath. At the least, they will be able to translate the markings, although some are obvious. Time to get out the labeling gun.

Similar but different... I had an LLDR-1 when I was with the Joint Attack Munitions Pgm Office... for testing purposes... no one else wanted to use it. Fun, but to "get it there" it has a nice backpack configuration... and goes "along with", not "instead of" other gear. I did not have a FIST, so had to carry myself. The unit I had was slightly over 100 lbs with full configuration.

If memory serves me right, this unit has a fairly peppy laser that is most decidedly NOT eyesafe. Be very careful if you do manage to turn it on. The detectors of that era did not have very good sensitivity and their performance in eyesafe bands was very limited. This will do very permanent damage to your eyes if you do something silly. Regular sunglasses or safety glasses might not do it depending on which model you have. I have fairly expensive protective goggles for when I have to work with designators and similar lasers and even then there are additional precautions that need to be taken.

Hi, Its nice to find someone who might have used them. Lasers are always a tricky business. The problem is with zero information, is to find out what frequency it is, as one set of eye protection does not fit all. I doubt that I will actually fire it up as contrary to my previous understanding the range on this thing is 15000 meters. I cannot think of anywhere that would be safe to do so. Even generally pointing it out to sea presents its own set of risks. But the optics are superb. |

Chances are it is a 1064nm laser. ILya
