Well I finally have got my hands on a pair of the binoculars I have been looking for for some years. A pair of Soviet 12x60 Binoculars, complete with open sight and sunshade in excellent condition. They have also recently been serviced and cleaned.

These are post war copies of the Zeiss 12x60 from the KdmrGr R4m Flak controller. After the war the Russians basically nicked everything from Zeiss. The Zeiss archive historian has some very strong views on the subject.

These have some differences. An external desiccant cartridge, a change to the ocular rain cover style and a leather strap instead of the canvas strap.

I got these for 900 euros including shipping. The ones I have seen on line (two) were both wrecks good only for spares and the sellers wanted really silly money for them.

I have given up on trying to post photos as I got bored with the whole process of getting access.

Well I removed the desiccant  cell and replaced the contents. The seal will need replacing, but I have to find a suitable one or the material to make it.
The mask cushion is leather, rather than the synthetic rubber the Germans used. The leather was quite dry so I treated that and its soft again and malleable.
Other than that, there is nothing to do to these. They are quite excellent..

These are interesting because they were made by the same Zeiss technicians that made the original blc models during the war. There was a factory set up in Novosibirsk after the war and everything was 'relocated' there. It seems that they worked quite willingly there. Their drivers, who took them between the housing and factory, often complained about them working late, making the drivers wait around for them.

Another set of these obtained from Ebay, slightly more complete than the other set I have, having a mounting frame and tripod, although missing the open sight.

Those of an observant turn of mind, may note that the mounting frame appears to be identical to that of the Russian TZK model. I shall have to check this when I am home next, to compare.
