Looking for a scope with illuminated reticle for hunting deer and for my two boys to use.  I thought the illumination would help them out and help focus their eye.  The ability to dial would be nice, but not necessary.  I like the looks of the 4-12x40 cds Leupold VX-R with fire dot.  Wouldn’t mind one step up in quality from that scope.  Any ideas?

VX-R is a good scope. IF you like Leupold, next step up is VX-5HD which I really like.

You should also consider Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 which as an aging, but still very competent design.

Sig Whiskey5 is a good option if you are OK with the color.  For some reason a lot of people do not like the grey.

If you can step up in price a little further, Meopta Meostar 1.5-6x42 and 3-12x56 are absolutely superb.
