I presently own an S&W 22A which is a real POS. I meticulously clean it and replace the plastic buffer. It constantly misfires and stovepipes with all types and brands of ammo. My wife enjoys shooting and a day at the range with this thing is frustrating.
I'm shopping for a new 22 semi pistol and I can't decide between the S&W Victory or the Taurus TX-22. I've read good reports on both. I'd rather buy U.S made, but I don't want to get stuck wit another S&W piece of crap like the 22A.Also, I'd rather not buy a Ruger because they are a bear to disassemble and clean. |

Also consider the GSG1911 .22. I have one and have several thousand rounds down it. Great .22

keeping a rimfire clean and dry lubed really helps with realibility as well as using quality ammo. The bulk stuff doesn't always work in my guns but high quality stuff typically runs fine. What ammo have you tried in your 22a? might be worth spending a bit more on ammo if it will run reliable and the extra cost will cover the headaches you save. Between the two you mention I'd lean towards the S&W, I've not had good luck with Taurus personally.

My buddy is the rep for GSG in the northeast. He sells hundreds of these and says they perform very well.

Pretty much every S&W 22A that I know of works very well. Have you talked to S&W about it? On the Ruger being difficult to disassemble I would agree with that on the older versions. The new MKIVs are very easy to disassemble and reassemble. My first attempt at disassembling and reassembling a MKIV took me less time than it did to type this comment. And I am NOT exaggerating!!

I was going to say, try the new Ruger Mk IV. With the new tip up barrel and action cleaning is easy.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.
