In shopping around for a scope for a light-weight 7mm 08 and I've discovered that there are many light wt. scope mounting options on the market I know nothing about. Among those mentioned in Optics for the Hunter are; Gentry, Holden, Forbes, Leupold aluminum and I believe I've even seen adds for Titanium mounts. I'll probably end up mounting a matt Leupold VXIII 2.5-8 or Bushnell 4200 1.5-6x36 as low as possible over a stainless receiver. I'm totally unconcerned with appearance as long as the mount is subdued or can be painted with matt paint.

Does anyone experienced with light wt. scope mounting have advice?

The Talley one piece base and ring combo works great.

Don't even consider anything else....you will be waisting your time.  Talley one piece ring/bases are the way to go.

Those Talley one piece aluminums are fantastic!  Scopes with AO and larger than 50mm on the end may not fit though.
