Wondering what you guys think. My friends are a little split, some love it, some don't like the stainless with wood stock.

I saw a Hill Country Genesis picture a few years ago, that I abosultely loved. But I was going to have to sell about 4-5 of my nicest rifles to order one. So I decided to build a poor man version- the 700 Mountain LSS in .30-06. I like it a lot and not afraid to take it out into the woods !

I found one in good shape, immediately traded out the trigger with a Timney 510 thin shoe set at 2 3/4#, and then went and shot it. I have not shot groups but it shoots good. So I sent the bolt off the Karl Feldkamp and had it fluted, cerakoted, and a knob installed. Took it hunting in Alabama a couple of weeks ago and killed some hogs with it. I am really liking it a lot, the 22" barrel is a breeze to get out of a shooting house window. It is nice and light overall and doesn't kick all that bad l!

It came with bases,so I used them. I picked up a Swarovski PV 2.5-10X42 ffp #7 off ebay for it, which I really like as well!

If you like it, that's all that counts.
I happen to like it myself. I think stainless steel looks good in laminated stocks, and the bolt looks killer.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I think the stainless looks great with the laminated stock. The black forend tip is nice, too.

Looks purty.  Now if you just would have put a real scope on it instead of a Swaro if would be awesome.  ;)

It is a nice looking stick.  It is almost like it didn't start out as a Remington...

Nice scope.

I think it looks fantastic.  Really like the contrasts and that bolt and bolt handle are killer...

Thanks guys! I have been hunting with synthetic stocks so much the last 7-8 years, I really enjoyed hunting with this wood stock.

The gun shoots well, but Supertool thanks for the link on the barrel(may be something I look into later). The current barrel is not floated and the action is not bedded. I am not sure if I am am going to mess with it or not, it is plenty accurate for hunting inside 300 yrds. The previous owner had 2 shims between the stock and bottom metal on the back action screw, I have no idea why, I removed them before I ever shot it. The factory x-mark trigger was set at 4 1/2 lbs, so I wonder if he was having accuracy problems? I didn't shoot it with that trigger.

Nice rifle. I see you picked the Kampfeld tactical bolt handle and not the hunter. Does working the larger handle/bolt have enough clearance with the Swaro eye bell? I ask because I had to go to medium rings to gain enough clearance using the original bolt handle and Leica scope on my Rem mountain rifle. Some of these euro scopes have large eye bells. Big Smile

Funny thing Mike, that is actually a campfire knob(smallest) but would not clear the scope. As crazy luck would have it(my luck anyway), I originally put a Schmidt Bender 6x42 1" tube scope on this gun. I picked up some 1" low rings locally that worked perfect. But were evidently packaged wrong and were medium. So I ordered a set of 30mm lows and they wouldn't work on the Swaro. Luckily, I had medium 30mm on hand, as I was trying to get set up to go on my hunt in AL. Mounted a little higher than I would like but not too bad.

That is one thing I like about my Abolt, the bolt throw is not near as far.  When I had my Z6 on there clearance was easy.

That rifle really did turn out nice Brent.  Not sure why your buddies don't like the stainless with wood.  I too, think it looks excellent.  I love the ebony (or maybe just black) end cap as well.  Looks great with the stainless.
