Have been looking forward to some great views of this event for a couple of weeks. Had a lot of snow last night but was nice and sunny today but started getting cold. Had the telescope ready to go but temp has dropped to -7F with a steady 20mph wind - too windy for good viewing with the scope. Instead I took my 15x70 binocs out but could only stand it for about 20 min - that is really brass monkey weather out there tonight but the moon was spectacular. Will have to wait till 2021 for the next full lunar eclipse.
Bitch to get old and soft! |

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Took my wife out in the car, turned on the heater and the heated seats, opened up the moon roof and watched it. Earned thank yous and husband points!

By the time the eclipse started temp had dropped to -10. This morning is -12: a bit too cool to be outside unless really have to. Think I'll throw another log on the fire!

It only got down to 19 degrees, here. Just "brisk". My wife and I went outside and watched the "high points"... start of eclipse, full eclipse, waning... much of it we watched from our bedroom window which was perfectly situated to view the full event. There IS a difference viewing only through atmosphere versus through the window glass.
There won't be another "just like this one" until 2050. There will be full eclipses viewable from North America in 2021 and 2022, but both will be of much shorter duration.

Didn't turn out as sharp as I would've preferred. I had trouble getting good focus. Maybe environmental conditions played a factor, IDK.
But, this was the view of it from my backyard last night: |

Here there was a heavy haze. It softened all but the silhouette.

I was looking forward to this, but it was very cloudy. So it wasn't visible here in SE SD. Nice photo Ted!
