I built a new lightweight rifle and I am shopping for a scope. The rifle is a rem 700 in 35 whelen with a 21 inch barrel. It sits in a macmillan edge filled stock. I currently have a minox za5 1.5-8x32 scope on it which I had laying around. I like the scope but was thinking I would upgrade. The minox is 13 oz and I don't want any heavier. Just hoping to upgrade the glass.
Here is a list of possible replacements. Not sure how these compare to the minox that I already have. Vortex Razor 1.5-8x32 HD LH - 13.4 oz ** On sale for $499 SWFA SS 2.5-10x32 Ultralght Rilfe Scope - 9.5 oz ** Curious about this one Swaro Z3 3-9x36 - 12 oz Leupold 2.5-8x36 VX 3i - 11.4 oz Trijicon 3-9x40 accupoint - 12.8 oz I know the swaro is the best in the list but it is a little more than I wanted to pay. I was not wanting to spend more than $500. I may wait until I can find one used or on sale to get it closer to my limit or possibly look for a swaro AV 3-9x36. My understanding is that it is the same as the Z3. The swfa looks great but not sure how the glass compares. |

I own all of those scopes listed except the new SS 2.5-10x32, which I’ve not seen yet.
All are good scopes for your stated use on a lightweight rifle. You are correct in saying the Swaro AV 3-9x36 is the same scope as the newer Z3 version except AV was made in Austria and Z3 was made (or at least assembled) in the US, and they have slightly different exterior aesthetics. Honestly, I think the Vortex Razor HD LH is optically on the same level as the Swaro AV/Z3 3-9x36, and I like the G4 reticle way better than either of Swaro’s reticles offered. It also has hydrophobic lens coatings and the Swaro doesn’t. Plus, it’s a little shorter and at the current sale price is less expensive. |

I had the Swaro 3-9x36mm and regret selling it.
I currently have the Vortex 1.5-8x32mm HD LH on my Ruger Ultralight. Both are great scopes but I think I'd lean towards the Swaro, especially with it's 4A reticle . . . |
