Gentlemen,
For those of you who live in free states and can use suppressors: I am curious about suppressors that extend over the back of the barrel a little, to cut down on overall length, like the onw from AMTAC or OSS. Have any of your used them? Is there a downside to this design that is escaping me right now? It seems like comparatively few companies make them, so it made me wonder. ILya |

I have a few OPS Inc. Overbarrel Supressors 3rd Model. and a few that are not as far back. The engineer then went to Allen then to Surefire.
Never an Issue. Use Kroil after every 3000 rounds or so. |

I have mounted a Sonic 45 on my Tikka / GRS 30-06. So far I haven't had any issues. The barrel is shortened 4 cm. It haven't had any effect on the MOA at all. The rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite. Putting on the extra weight from the stock ( app 1 kilo) and the silencer has made it a complete different rifle to shot. Earlier I had to hold on tight when firing. Now my 6-5x55 is a true "hard hitter" compared to it. |

BuHuu You are not quite correct there Graham. Here in DK we have to get a license for the suppressor as well as for the rifle. A LOT of paperwork, believe me. The last one I bought took 21 days from sending in the paperwork till I received the license.... So no... We can't just buy it in any store. I think it was 2013 or maybe 14 they opened up for the use of suppressors. It was funny cause one of the main reasons for not allowing them before was the thought that " then you could kill someone without a sound" like in a James Bond movie. I have to admit i was not kean on the idea to have wrinkles in ANY of my rifles, neither destroying the look of my shooters, cause no matter how you face it, they are G.D. ugly... It changes the balance to, but I also have to admit I am SO pleased that I can quiet down my 17 hmr. Not kill the noise, but keep it down. When it comes to the 30-06 it's a different story. It still makes noise, but it keeps the rifle steady.

21 days. Hahaha. My last suppressors took 10.5 months. My SBRs took around 8 I believe.

Yes licensing is a pain. Here you wait for the rifle permit but the police think it really odd if you don't ask for a suppressor when you apply (Like they phone you up and say "Are you sure you don't want a moderator (Suppressor) for your XYZ")

Nice but, but like you said, a bit odd. How long does it take to get a license in the UK?

Highly dependent on the police force I'm afraid. Should be consistent, it isn't. My lot are quite good, few weeks and don't mess around with conditions. Some aren't so good. Scrummy |

Hoping that the Hearing Protection Act would help us but after the Las Vegas shooting and Hemorrhoid Hilary mentioning it was lucky he did not have a suppressor, many sponsors of the bill withdrew their support.
