Looking to spend up to $400 on a new scope that can take the recoil of a 300 win mag rifle without issues.
I would like it to have up to 12x magnification, and an objective lens between 42 and 50. I know $400 is not much, but for now I'm looking at the best glass and clearest image this amount can buy. Thanks |

I have an older Bushnell 4200 duplex that has very good glass considering the price range this one is the new improved version with a ballistic reticle but remember the ballistic reticles are only true at the highest power with these 2nd focal plane scopes where the reticle appears to remain the same size while you zoom the power ring. The center X is true at all magnifications but when the width of the field of view changes as you zoom the marks below center represent something different. One can make notes and do a bit or work on the range and figure out what the marks below center represent. Realizing that 6x will be the highest power that makes the image appear brightest in low light I would do a little work once it is zeroed to find what the marks below center represent. While at 16X those may represent 200, 300, 400, 500, 600. When you dial it down to 6x that first mark below center may be 350 yds which could be nice to know in low light. |

My favorite caliber, often a wise choice. What you plan to do with it would be helpful information. Glass quality trumps magnification every time. Spend on good glass, more so than high magnification. Voice of experience.
