I want to replace the factory sights on my gen 4 G19 and am wondering if I should go with a tritium sight and what kind to get.

My main concern with the Glock is for it to be easily accessible from my Blackhawk thigh holster when hunting, followed by fast target acquisition. The areas I hunt in Montana are increasingly becoming more inhabited by mountain lions. Or at least they're getting more bold or willing to stalk humans. My hunting partner had one jump on his back this season! While I try to avoid being out in the dark or in areas of heavy cover, that's sometimes not possible.

The greatest threat would be hiking out at night with a load of elk meat. I might have seconds to draw and aim. I'm not that concerned about enhancing accuracy over the factory sights.
Reaction time is a factor...

I am not real big on Tritium sights to be honest, but I like to have a lot of open space in both sides of the front sight. That seems to make me faster in questionable light. I sorta retrained myself to all black sights with wife rear notch and it seems to work better for me.

Outside of that, wife rear notch with gold bead front seems to be pretty visible.

If you really want an advantage in difficult light, machine the slide for a red dot and co-witness irons with it.

I like tritium sights, and I’m a fan of the Trijicon HD. They have a very visible front sight in daytime due to the bright fluorescent ring around the tritium dot. The rear sight has a radiused notch so it frames the front donut nicely. The rear sight also has a square ledge if you’re into one handed slide racking.

I like the looks of the Heinie sights as well, and those who’ve used them swear by them. I do like the “straight 8” concept. I’ve played with them a little on friends’ guns but don’t happen to own any Heinie sights to give a long term report on them.

I have many straight 8s and like them allot. I don’t have them on glocks, but for those favor the notch rear tritium front.

I'm not 100% convinced that you'll be able to actually pick up those, (or any other illuminated sight) in an actual "fight or flight" sh*tty-ation.

I do enjoy the warm glow of the Trijicon sights when my pistola is laying on my night stand at night....Big Grin

I am fine with only the white dot on the front site as it is the only one that matters. Darken the rear dots if you want. It makes picking up the front site easier. I have put white nail polish on front sites for my older revolvers and autos. It works  great for speedy acquisition.
Regarding the aero sights like Heinie, Novak, etc; you can't one hand rack or clear a round like you can a simple blade or box type rear site. That is important to me. They sure look great, though.

I like the Warren Tactical tritium front sight with a plain rear on my Sig P228. So that is what is going on my Glock 20SF and 31.

Warren also has a setup that is very similar to the straight 8s.

I like Meprolight, Trijicon and GhostRIng.  All about the same.

You can get the Trijicon front sight only, too.

Look at the trijicons, I have ghost ring rear (no illum) and big dot front, good setup for defense, not great for precision.

I have the XS Big Dot tritium sights on a Kahr MK40, and I like them pretty well. They aren’t a great choice for precision, but they are fast and easy to pick up, IMO great for defense. The rear has a shallow “v” with a vertical tritium line, so you just “dot the I” with the big dot at the front. Similar concept to the “Straight 8” except with a line rather than dot on the rear sight.

I have that on my other Glock and on one M&P Shield… very fast "on the draw"…  spending some time on improving long range accuracy.  Not easy...

I have Heinie Ledge sights on my G34 and they allow one handed slide racking just fine.
