I think I finally discovered what the Lee factory crimp die is for today....I was adjusting 357 mag and moved the crimp too far down and got a "bulge" ring on the case and the round wouldn't chamber smoothly.  I could see it on the first one I tested.

So, my assumption is rather than adjust the crimp properly people just run it through the FCD to remove the bulge?  I hear people say they get rid of the bulge and allow it to chamber....but I have to ask why continue to make ammo with a bulge?  Why don't you just adjust the crimp less?  What am I missing...seems far too obvious and see these things talked about all over the inter webs about how great they are.

For those that use, would be curious if its for a reason other than what is stated?  I haven't ever bought one yet...almost have a few times because people swear by them so much.

I use one for my AR rounds to eliminate bullet setback....Over pressure/KABOOM.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

I worded it poorly above...I'm sure it differs on if trying to seat/crimp in one step vs a reason to do it separate. Most of my experience is on rifle rounds and don't have an issue there doing in one step. On pistol rounds doing both with one die seems to work just fine.

I'll have to look more on reasons to do separately.
