Before I start ordering supplies....
New Winchester 1894 sporter, 24" barrel and Japan made. All other slug reports on the inter web I can find indicate .3775 slugged barrel so expect mine will be the same. For cast bullets, any suggestions on diameter and brand from any experience anyone has? Will not do jacketed, very expensive and want to learn cast bullets a bit as I load some for this and 45-70. Plan on using the longer starline brass said to be a bit thinner to make larger cast bullets seat better. Plan on getting a 3 set die to expand the mouth as well if needed. Thinking Hornady 3 die set at the moment...dont think I will need the cowboy dies. Thanks in advance as always for all the help.

It was one of Teddy Roosevelt's favorites.

From the top...1894 Sporter in 38-55, 1886 45-70, and Trails End Take down 94 in 450 Marlin. Uberti El Patron in 357 to the side.
Supplies on the way for 45-70....38-55 will be next but have developed a feeling that I now need at least 2 revolvers in 45 colt along with a rifle.....

Those look very nice. I like the bottom one the best
My complaint with the Winchesters is I like to put the bottom corner of the stock into the pocket just below my collar bone. Those things force me to put the corner of the stock clear to my arm pit and then I have to dip my head like a mother to get into the sights. I like to bring the gun to my eye, not even moving my head. Not having to dip my head and bring the gun up. I bought one online once and didn't even think about that. Put it up to my shoulder and realized the issue and how bad that was going to sting during recoil. It went to the pawn shot to trade for a marlin the next day. |

Well...I just found Black Hills new ammo with new starline brass at 18.99 a box....with long brass about 33 bucks per 50 (66 cents per round) and gas checked bullets at 39 cents per bullet...im at 1.05 per round plus powder, primer, time, and reloading equipment costs.
At .95 a round, grabbed 120 rounds with a 13 dollar shipping charge so .11 per round...puts me at 1.06 per round..... It will be fun to reload later on, but 120 rounds will last me at least a few months of shooting :)
