Just in case anyone is debating a smoker......

Have had a Masterbuilt electric for about 2 years, no complaints at all and works pretty good.  Had the chance to pick up a clearance Smokey Mountain for 125 bucks brand new in the 18.5 inch version so had to get it.

I didnt bother to season it other than letting it heat a bit on the first run.  Did a brisket on the bottom rack and a whole chicken on the top.

I finally got the brisket to come out tasting the way i wanted, with it being very juicy as well.  The whole chicken got devoured by the kids as well.

Long story short, first time using the weber, not experienced with it and and no seasoning and it came out better than anything I have ever done on the Masterbuilt.

My 2 cents if you are debating is go charcoal...it was very easy to maintain temp with the dampners, and no more work at all than adding wood chips every hour to the electric.  I really dont see me using the electric much anymore unless I am doing a huge party.

Sounds good. Thanks for the info!
If we're not suppose to eat animals...how come they're made of meat?

Just did another brisket on it tonight....fantastic! It's less work than the electric if you can believe it. Temp holds pretty darn static the entire time. Thought I would update in case anyone grabbing one this weekend. Probably giving away my electric.

That's pretty interesting. I've been considering one for camping. I don't generally like charcoal, but it'd give me something to do on an extended campout. Good to know its not too much work.

I use an electric here at the house. I set it up with foil packs at bedtime and take the butt or brisket off at lunch the following noon.

I picked up a Traeger Smoker last week, did the seasoning but haven't had time to to use it yet. I have my annual garage/sample sale going on so I've been swamped with that.

Just picked up a folding shelf and a Realtree cover for it. Can't wait to use it.

For example did ribs last night. Light charcoal with chimney, throw in a few hickory chunks, put meat on...never adjusted a thing after that. Didn't use any foil wrap or 3-2-1 method....came out great just leaving them there. So in a way it's less work than electric.

As far as food quality it seems to have slightly better flavor and cuts are much more moist.

Where did you find one for $125?
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Local John Deere dealer had them with Deere logos on three. Noticed they were collecting dust and asked for the sale price....he wanted them gone and offered it to me for that price. I said sold...

Even at full price, think I still spent more on electric.
