I just aquired a new marlin 336W 30-30. I must admit im new around scopes and such, Ive always shot open sight. It says its tapped for scopes  I just need to know where I can get some good scope mounts( and how to put them on for that matter) and a nice scope to go along with it. Nothing too expensive mid-range price but good quality. If anyone can help me out I would be appreciative. Thanks

for mounts i would look at the leupold 1 peice base. as for the scope, the 30-30 is a 250 yard deer gun, and you shouldnt need to much power, so its all up to how much you want to spend. i think i would buy the leupold rifleman 2-7x33 for 179.95.

For me a 30-30 is a 100-150 yard gun and mine wear fixed 4x32 scopes.

According to the Leupold catalog the only mounts available are a standard and QR base in one piece. Putting them on is pretty much self explanatory when u see it. Just take the filler screws out of the gun and use the screws provided from Leupold to install it. The standard base is only available in gloss but the QR is available in matte.

As for a mid range scope I favor the Weaver Grand Slam. They have a 3-10x40 that would be ideal for your setup.

 Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40..... 249.95

Leupold Standard 1 Piece Base..... $19.95

Leupold Quick Release 1 Piece Base..... $49.95

The smaller the better.  Long scopes and short stocks don't mix well.

Leupold 4x33.....$199.95

Leupold 1 pc. base.....$19.95

Leupold 1" low gloss rings....$24.95
