Has anyone done it? I wasn't able to attend, but a buddy did. Our range had a pistol golf shoot. The goal was to shoot golf balls off of bowling pins at 25-27 feet. I guess any caliber or action was acceptable. My buddy shot his Ruger mark II. Now he is tricking it out with a rail and a new frame. My question is, what type of pistol would you use? I'm thinking of a buckmark urx contour and addind an optic of some sort. What type of sight would you use at that distance on a .22? I have no idea of a price range yet?

My experience has been both the Ruger MK II and MK III will out shoot the Buckmark. The Aimpoint micro would be a fun fit.

+1 on the Ruger MKIII. But I would add a Volquartsen trigger kit. Makes for a very nice trigger.

The micro looks sweet but I'm sure that is more than I want to invest. What other options would you suggest in the sub $250 range?

I have a modified MKIII 22/45 with a Burris Fastfire III on it that shoots great.  Even more fun with the suppressor and sub sonic ammo.

I like that option. Has anyone used the new Vortex Venom?

I have not used the venom but have used fastfire, RMR, and doctor, they are very similar. Be aware that moving to a pistol optic like this takes some training, it is far less easy than it seems. (The window is small, and unless you have spent much time presenting, you will lose the dot when the gun comes up. It is not insurmountable, but it takes more training than most think it will.) Once you get good with the reflex site, you'll want them on other pistols. Just FYI.

Vortex makes solid stuff and they stand behind it, get one and give us a range report.

Hey guys, sorry for not getting back here more often. But I wanted to throw out an update.
I ended up just buying a Tactical Solutions rail with integral rear sight for my Buckmark URX and added a vortex venom. I really like the setup and it shoots well, although the trigger on the Buckmark could use a little help. Anyway, I have shot the match twice now. It is a really informal set-up with voice activated start commands and human activated timers and such, so take the times with a grain of salt. They can only be as accurate as the guy running the timers. Basically the shoot goes as I previously described with the exception that the golf balls sit on t's that are drilled into a rail road tie. In January I shot 4 or 5 rounds that went pretty well. I got lucky on one run and shot all 5 balls in 6.09 sec with 1 miss. In Febuary I went up again and shot basically the same number of rounds with my best being a 7.38 sec. I just couldn't get into a smooth rythm, but it was enough to best the next guy (my boss) by .25 of sec. January's wasn't even close. Most guys that month showed up with open sights, I am now a firm believer in the power of a red dot. They are fast to aim, if you can be disciplined on how you bring your pistol up and can find the dot quickly.
