Ronda Rousey showed her heart, or lack of it, Saturday night. She went into the cage "the best that's ever been"... and at times she looked it (before this fight). Holly Holm became the "Master" in one split second. I blame Ronda's coaching team and her vanity (Pride goeth before a fall). When she dissed Holly Holm by not touching gloves, I hoped for a "come uppance"... never expected the devastation that would ensue. Ronda fought like a rank beginner against a seasoned veteran... she was losing from the first seconds of the encounter... I won't call it a fight... there was really no fight there (except from Holly Holm). Holly beat Ronda at every aspect of the game... she even beat Ronda at her own game... Sometimes, sometimes... fighters believe the hype... they think they can play the talk shows, the speaking engagements, all the limelight while preparing for a fight. I've seen it happen many times... the "fall" certainly comes and it is heavy. Though I've never really cared for Mayweather, I've always admired his preparation... he ALWAYS comes in in fantastic shape and ready to do what he does. Ronda thought she was going to throw Holly to the ground and submit her... that was her only game plan... turns out, Holly was stronger, faster, and could box and kickbox. Ronda has nearly forgotten how to do those things and she was always a "learner", never a master of those skills. Don't get me wrong... she has some decent punching power and she has some decent kicks... but she never made them "primary" to her arsenal. Buster Douglas solved Mike Tyson for good... Tyson was never "feared" again. Though I hope differently for Ronda Rousey, I am not confident she will not suffer the same fate. In one round and one minute she exposed all her weaknesses. "Getting Back" will be a tough mental and physical challenge. Now we will find out for sure how tough she really is... if she can overcome her arrogance and disdain for others... and if she ever really was a champion... I saw "something" there, the first time I saw her fight... I hope she can get it back... I hope she can rise above the sad, petty figure we saw on Saturday. She has some soul searching to do... she now has to learn who she really is... I'm praying for her... Congratulations, Holly Holm... Long live the Champ... |

Being kicked on the side of the head hard enough for a KO might have caused a concussion. Being busted in the head numerous times just after did not help either. I think the term for this is, "dementia pugilistica" or multiple episodes of head trauma, meaning a bad and early end to your life without the discretionary choices to spend your money, should any of it remain. Hopefully, Ronda will have enough sense to quit. |

Ronda had no concussion and wasn't hit in the head that hard. The kick was to the carotid artery, which has potential for extreme damage, but in this case it was "over" in a short time frame. What happens in such a blow is the brain thinks there is a sudden, huge increase in blood pressure and LOWERS blood pressure dramatically causing unconsciousness... not desired (still kills brain cells... loss of oxygen to the brain... about like a really bad drunk), but better than a concussion. If you watch the kick carefully, it shows the dorsum pedis contacting the side of the neck. From the position of foot, there was very little transfer of force to the head. From that position, the toes are not carrying much force. Prior to the kick, Ronda was stung, but had not been severely battered. She looked bad because of the exterior damage. Yes, she had taken some "hits" but was mostly just out of steam... she had no "wind" and once she got tired appeared to lose desire to be in the fight... she just wanted out. She got it with the kick... don't take that I'm saying she "laid down", she did not, she was knocked unconscious, but she did not want to be in the fight when the bell rang for the second round. The "blows" after Ronda went down did not really land and were pretty much ineffective... no damage from those. |

I think that's what happened to me once in Whore-ez. I was either hit in the carotid artery, or it could have been the mezcal.....

Sure looks like Ronda's brain was bounced real hard up against the upper right inside of her skull. My point is brain damage from this type of stuff is cumulative and any single event does not necessarily cause a concussion (disturbance of cerebral function).

When you are fighting, you win or lose, OFTEN, on ego. You have to believe you are invincible and make everyone else believe that too. However, the successful/lasting fighters show respect as well. They might "get in someone's face", but they always give deference to the other fighter's skills. When Ronda started truly disrespecting people, her downfall began. There is a difference between ego and disrespect. It's not even a "fine line". As I said at the beginning of this, we will now see what Rowdy Ronda Rousey is made of... When Mike Tyson fired Kevin Rooney, his doom was sealed... if Ronda KEEPS Tarverdyan, her doom is sealed. He is totally inadequate... sad that he made any money at all off her fights. It is part of his job to keep his fighter "in check", to school, to defend, to stand for, serve as conscience, be "everything" for the fighter, friend, philosopher, TRAINER, confidant... I don't see that Tarverdyan has done any of those things, at least not well. Most of all, it is his MISSION to ensure his fighter enters the ring with skills honed to the maximum, conditioned for the worst... prepared to be the best. Ronda did not look that way for this fight, she had "the stare" but there was no fire in her eyes... sure, much of the fault falls on her... but her trainer is her guide, her mentor and he let it happen. Useless. Worse than useless because he actually harmed her abilities. |

I've watched the video of the fight a few times now, no doubt about it, Ronda got schooled big time.

The Rousey team thought Holm was going to run... when she DIDN'T, they had NO PLAN. Ronda was thrown to the wolf... |
