Thanks all for explaning the difference.
To the OP I have only used angled spotting scopes. They are comfortable when shooting from a bench and prone. I haven't used it standing. Note I'm not the most advanced shooter out there. |

I have both angled and straight spotters. For standing and sitting I feel the angled is far better. I could see the advantage for prone, though.
Regarding finding an object, it took some practice but is much easier now. Overall I think the angled is more comfortable for 90% of my viewing and that out weighs the slight disadvantage to the straight.

I like angled from prone as well. If you turn is sideways on a short tripod, you can have it so it is just right of your eye and all you have to do is slightly turn your head and you are looking through your spotter. Straight works well, but I think angled is easier in that role as well.

I'd just like to figure out how I could mount my Pentax spotter on the stand I use for high power matches.

Sounds like a 7 to 4 victory for the angled. I will add to the angled preference. Let the beating continue.
LOL!!! 8 to 4. |

My only spotter is straight, but I have decided that an angled spotter would be more useful to me. I'll often set it up to look at stars, which becomes a problem with the straight eyepiece. Sure is fun to look at the rings of Saturn, though.
