If your REALLY REALLY wanting to lighten up that rifle, you may want to consider Talley LW's. I got rid of some Badger steel rings and a Badger Pic rail and went with Talley's and it's noticeably lighter, my friend.
That said, I went with Seekins aluminum and the Badger steel rail and the rings made the rig lighter.

I hear ya on the Talley. Thing is I like being able to swap in a high magnification target scope to test loads.
I checked around with the pic. ring vendors that would respond to me. For instance Buckeye has an aluminum product with some weight supposedly save by titanium hardware, but they didn't respond to email or answer their phone. They might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned. I heard back from Seekins and Talley. Talley quoted six ounces for their rings. I have no idea why theirs are twice the usual three ounces, but that's what they emailed. Seekins said their 1" low is 2.8oz the pair. I happen to know TPS rings are a hair less in weight even though they're a hair taller than the Seekins. That is most likely due to the extra screws in the Seekins design. I was going to get the Seekins until it occurred to me their design might not work as well as the TPS with an EGW rail. EGW rails are the only ones for my latest rifle. So, I'll get TPS again. I will probably cut the rail down. I might take some metal off the rings. I will not be able to get down to the weight I could just by using the Talley mounts. I will try to ignore the idea that I could try mounting two different kinds of rings on the target scope. |

Worried about weight but wanting 2 sets of rings on the same scope. My brain must be getting RUSTY. This does not compute. |

Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.
Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow Now the rules have changed again. |

It's possible that it doesn't make any sense. It sure seems complicated. I have no intention of trying it, but here goes: If I were to set the rifle up with a lightweight bases and rings on the scope I intend to hunt with, I could also add a pair of such rings to my target scope. I would then be able to swap out the hunting for the target scope and vice versa.
Here is how I would try it: The target scope already has picatinny rings on it for use with most all my other rifles. I would have to mount the lightweight rings 90 degrees off, but I would have both the lighweight rings and picatinny rings on the target scope. That might or might not work. I don't think I'll find out. |
