So I am needing to top off a Winchester 70 super grade with a gloss scope to complete the look I want. I am pretty much stuck to leupold for this project (unless I could find a 3-9x40 burris sig. series on the auction site).

Anyways I am looking at 3 options - New VX1 or VX2 3-9X40 OR a used deal on a Vari xIII 2.5-8x. The latter can be found at a decent price compared to the newer VX3. Is the older outdated Vari X series any better than the new VX1 OR 2's? Suggestions? Comments?

The VX-2 will be superior to the older VX-III. To me the VX-III had poor contrast and the glass wasn't very sharp. The change Leupold made into the VX-2 & 3 line was a huge increase in glass quality.

Now the rules have changed again.

Sightron used to put out a gloss Big Sky in 3-9 X 42. It was rather good... I just sold one recently. There may be a few around on Fleabay or similar sites.

Yep....the new Leupolds are superior to the oldies.   Leupolds look so fabulous.

Modern Production Super Grade....

If I could swing the funds I was thinking about an older Zeiss 3-9x36 in gloss.
