So im needing a new target scope on a budget. I only shoot 100-200 yards . It will be going on a 20 inch sps tactical . Iv looked at Mueller APT 4.5-14 X 44 . I need something in that size, dont want anything much bigger in size . I have really been thinking about SWFA 16x or 20x.... Id give anything to have a leuPold Vx2 6-18x40 with target knobs but thay run about 550$

Welcome to Optics Talk.
So, what is your budget? If your considering an SS, then I'd get one. The 10x or 12x, (I've had both), would serve you well.

Welcome, I can second the SS 10x. It is very clear and and excelent value. I haven't looked through the higher magnification SS's but i'm sure they are the same. I can also recomend the SS 3-15x42 if your budget gets larger in the future. Both are great.

Well i was trying to stay in the 300$ range....or less. I think a 20 power would drive me nuts at 100 yards . Im afraid much over 16x i would get into a lot problems with heat in the summer . So what would a 3/4 inch dot at 100 and 200 yards look like with a 14x and 16x

I don't have a picture handy to show you but at 15x with my 3-15 super sniper a 3/4" dot is easy to see. I'm able to see it with my friends SS 10x as well.

Mine has the mil quad reticle. I haven't looked through a SS with the older mil dot.

I have a few 20x (5) on all different calibers and only shoot out to 200 yards and I think being able to see 22 cal. holes at 200 is great.Mirage never bothered me, but I don't normally shoot in 100 degree weather either. Just relocated a 20x onto a 22lr for 50 &75 yards same deal can see holes with no problems. At 62 I need all the help I can get. |

I agree with Sparky,I go with SS 10 or 12X.If you have young eyes 10X will be more than enough magnification out to 200 yrds.
