I wasn't sure I should post this here or in the rifle area....

I have a MP94 combo gun 12ga/30-06.  I am looking for ideas on what scope to put on it.  I have some ideas, but I don't want to lead the conversation.

To be or not to be, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them.

Interesting seems like a very useful tool.  Obviously if you wish to use the shotgun a scope with very much magnification would be quite impossible so I would suggest the Aimpoint 9000L
which will mount using two 30mm rings.
Aimpoint 9000L 30mm Red Dot Sight 2 MOA Dot Aimpoint 9000L 30mm Red Dot Sight
Stock # - AIM11419
  • Matte
  • 2 MOA Dot
  • 30mm
  • Free Aimpoint Bikini Lens Cover w/ Purchase
$427.00
The other possible route is to go with a 1-6 or a 1-4 scope
SWFA SS HD 1-6x24 Tactical 30mm Riflescope SWFA SS HD 1-6x24 Tactical 30mm Riflescope
Stock # - SSHD16X24D
  • Matte Black Finish
  • First Focal Plane Illuminated Donut (Circle/Mil-Scale)
  • 30mm Tube
  • .10 Mrad, 10 Mils per Rev.
  • HD Model
  • Undercover Turrets
$999.95
and the price goes up from there.  Or you could go with a fixed 1x   I have on scope that is a fixed 1x which is a Burris that is no longer made.  Do you have a price range in mind and have you checked to see what mounts might work for you?

  • Dual-X
  • 1"
$80.95

Your thinking is along the same lines as mine a 1-?x would be nice.

As far as price, I have many guns and not enough scopes and the scopes and my understanding of what scope I like/want keeps changing.  So I tend to go cheap.

I personally like the 1x? scope mounted as low as possible and build up the stock so your cheek weld is perfect when you throw the rifle up.  With it set up like this you can even use it on flying game on 1x.

If you have an 11mm rib UTG makes a little clamp  adaptor 11mm to Weaver that is about the lowest way to mount a scope on an 11mm rib.

My combo gun with either a Leupold VX-II 1x4x20mm or Weaver V-3.  I've had both on the gun and they both work well.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I would keep it at a 1-4x

How far to plan on engaging with the 30-06 side of the rifle? Will 4x be enough for you? 1x should suit you for the 12g part, and you could always dial it up?

are you opposed to red dots?
