Cooper .30-06 Excalibur with Luepold standard rings/bases and a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 ZRF TT. Went out last weekend and shot long range for the first time(over 300-400yrds).

I ran out of adjusment in my scope about 760-775 yrds. I was hitting about 8-12" low at 785 yrds. I was hitting pretty good though, especially off just a card table with a sandbag. I couldn't shoot at the 1000 yrd target because of my scope limitations. He had 4 targets at 100-400-785-1000.

Do you guys think, if I got a 10moa picatinny base and changed my rings out I could get close to 1000y and keep a moderate zero? Enough to hold over a little(3-5ft) at 1000y.

How much info do you need ? I was zero'd at 100 and needed 5.5moa to hit dead on at 400 and I ran out of adjustment at 17moa(hitting a little low at 785y). I will check to see if I can crank my scope down 10moa when I get home tonight, so I can keep a good zero range for hunting(100-200y). Shooting Win ballistic Silvertip 168's (.475BC), velocity ??? but definately more than the package states at 2790.

Wow, that is some fun stuff though!! I thought I missed the first couple of times at 785 because it took so long to hit.

I'd get a 20 MOA rail.
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

I don't think he has enough adjustment with that scope for a 20MOA rail...

Yep. A 20MOA rail is going to be a better bet for most scopes, esp. for a .30-06.
Reaction time is a factor...

Just off hand, I think that scope has 25 MOA of adjustment so he may be able to get away with a 20MOA base.

25 moa on a Conquest 4-14, really?

If so, a 20moa  base is gonna be really, really tricky!

This scope has 42.8 MOA of total elevation adjustment. If his zero at 100yds is at the mechanical center he would have 1.4 MOA left with a 20MOA base.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. Checked my scope and it appears I have about 28min of adjustment down/17min up. My rings are medium because Coopers will not eject shells with low rings and target turrets. So I guess a 20 moa base would work?? I have to find one too, Ken Farrell is out of the 20moa for my style but I think Cooper sells them.

If you have 17 up, a 10MOA base will work.  I don't know for sure on conquest put some scopes do not work well near the edges of their adjustment range.

I didn't run the numbers, but your 168s will be near the end of their useful range.

Shooting at that distance is a challenge.  You might be surprised at the differences between a 700 yard shot and a 1,000 yard shot, they are severe.
