Here's a photo I took last week of a "ghost town" of sorts near where I live, between Brenham and Chappell Hill, TX. Ironically, it was called "Winkelman, TX." It was never really a town, but instead a community of old buildings an entrepreneur moved to the location back in the 1980's as a retail tourist attraction, with shops and eateries. Evidently, rumor has it, this entrepreneur had financial troubles and the bank who held the paper repo'ed the property. These buildings have been sitting there vacant for 25 - 30 years or so. Someone boarded up the windows because hobos were sleeping in the buildings.
I waited until it was cloudy and threatening to rain before taking the pic to make it look more forbidding. I took the pic with my Nikon D800 and Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8 lens, set at 14mm. Given it's a wide angle shot, the pic has noticeable barrel distortion (i.e. "fisheye" look). I straightened it out a little in post, but I kinda liked the distortion, as I thought it made the structures seem more unstable. This was a 5-frame bracketed shot combined into 1 HDR photo to provide better detail in both the sky and shadows. I started to use this pic for the March photo contest, but chose another instead. |

Great pic. I love wide angle lenses. If you get a chance, look through a Tokina 11-16 F2.8

Excellent! Wish I knew enough about photography but I haven't touched a SLR in 40 years!!!!
There are old abandoned farms and Inns all around here several dating way way back to colonial days.
There are also several furnaces where early settlers smelted their iron...
Way cool Tedley your as good with a camera as you are with a gun!

This is a super cool photo.
I really overall, I like the entire spectrum. From the fisheye, the storm clouds, the color variation. Wonderful shot Ted.
