I was setting up a Leupold VX-2 4-12x40mm AO scope on a Ruger 1022 today using Warne 1" Medium height rings. When I tightened down the ring screws on the eyepiece end (to 25lbs with torque wrench), it became very difficult to turn the scope's magnification adjustment (power) ring even though there was no contact between the Warne ring and the power ring.
What's going on? Thanks. |

You are compressing the tube too much and binding the travel of the erector system.
Dial back on the rings a little. ILya

Welcome JazzDoc I hope that was in/lbs you were using with your wrench. It looks like that is what Warne recommends.

Had the same issue on my CZ455 with Warne 30mm rimfire rings. Tried to tighten the rings to the dovetail using the normal 35 in/lbs I used on my centerfire rings.
Backed them out and used the included tool to tighten the rings to the dovetail and tube.
