Although the Vortex HD 16-48x65 scope comes with a "view through" padded ballistic nylon case, that case really is designed to protect the scope when you have it on the supplied shoulder strap and are hiking around with it.  It would provide some protection against minor bumps and brushes, but I didn't feel it would provide good protection while carrying the scope in my truck.

After measuring the scope, I decided on a Pelican 1500 case.  It is the right size, and is filled with a block of that pick & pull foam that you can use to customize the components.  It's enormously strong, O-ring sealed against moisture, and has a pressure equalizing seal.   The latches are very strong, and the handle is super comfortable.

I am able to have my scope in there, along with another compartment for an additional eyepiece I have on order, and my MeFoto Daytrip tripod (I use the scope mostly for spotting bullet holes in paper at the shooting range).

If you want good protection for your scope, the Pelican cases are highly recommended.

About those Sharpie marks.  I should have laid it out on the backside of the foam when I traced around the scope.  I don't know how to remove the marks now.  Oh well, it's a protective case, not a display case.

Pelican makes great cases, I have a rifle case and a take down shotgun case and I really believe you could drive a truck over them.
When you are dead, you don't know you are dead.It is difficult only for others.

It is the same when you are stupid.
