Hi, my first post. Wondered if anyone can advise on the differences between the above versions on Pentax's 65ED's? I have a chance to grab a never used 65ED original at a good price. But wondered if the 65ED version II offered any significant improvements?

I am only using it for some range work to 200 yards and a lot of camping out in fairly rough back country so birdwatcher level optics is not too much of a concern for me. General body quality and whether the 65ED can also be used with astronomy eyepeices are my main questions. I have done some googling but a lot of references don't differentiate whether its the old or new version the author is talking about.

Well I learnt today the difference is apparently minimal , largely related to some improvements in the optics and reduction in CA, not that I am entirely sure what that means. :) So I am putting money down on the 65ED tomorrow. Next question is any experiences with 8-24 zoom eyepieces that would suit the function and price range of this scope? I am looking to stay in the $175-200 price range for the eyepiece, but can adjust that up or down if necessary.

Well it was nice talking to me, on my advice I picked up a pentax 65Ed and the older style XF zoom. Nice work me and good spotting.

That is funny.
I would help you, but I know very little. I am looking myself.
