On another post someone said that all leupold scopes are air gun rated. I'm not calling that someone a liar or anything, It's just that I like leupold on firearms, and might like to have one on my spring air rifle. So are the really all air gun rated , and if so what models would work well on my gamo shadow. thank you all very much for any help

Leo 6.5x20 EFR is probably one of the best air gun scopes you can get. Even if they all are rated not all are close focusing.

I'm not trying to keep you from buying a top of the line scope or anything, I was just wondering why you are willing to spend so much on an air rifle scope?

Huntnful, I am more or less being raped at this point. you see; I had two scopes before, and tried Both  on my air rifle. the first was of such poor quality that I'm almost embarrassed to mention it (daisy power line 3-9x32). It was areal  pos. About 50 shots completely destroyed the thing. the turrets were flying off, and i was having to keep putting them back on untill finally (and thank God) the threadded parts of of these peices were too worn to thread back onto the scope. I'm sorry I dont know all the technical scope jargen that every one else who uses this forum seems to have been born to use. The other was of way better quality (Bushnell sportsman 3-9x40), but it will not stay zeroed for more than  four or five shots. I am in the process of buying a 22 hornet andd this will be the new home of my bushnell sportsman. So as I have said I am not so much willing as I am being raped. Well; there you have it. I'm not being a smart "A" infact I appreciate your response. I just thought maybe instead of spending two to four hundred in alot of cheap scopes that it might be better to buy a top quality scope, and get out there and start having fun. But if you or any body Know of a scope that will hold up on my air rifle that will save me some money (or if you dont) I would be greatful to hear from you again.

thanks to everyone for your attention and for your questions

BTW: I didnt really answer the above question, so here goes. I bought this air rifle for the purpose of quietly dispatching pest bird rats and squirrels around my home. But I would like the kills to be humane. but I have'nt even been able to consistantly hit a two inch diameter bulls eye yet accept using open sights. But I figure a rats kill zone is a little smaller than two inches, hence I may need a better scope. But I guess better doesn't have to mean out rageously expencive.

Your gun is certainly capable of shooting small enough groups to put the scope to use. Backyard airgun shooting is really in your face fun. Have you tried all the types of pellets, almost more than 30-06 types. My favorite are Diablo's. in the RWS we use. Most good air guns have excellent triggers and are outstanding practice, better than dry firing. Try old 9mm cases at 35-50 yds. This is when the target turrets on the 6.5x20 really pay off. A 3x9 Leo EFR would certainly work on your gun, or maybe a 6x18 Leo with target dot and turrets.

yeah, I completely agree with what you are doing, but since I don't have that much money I just bought a cheaper airrifle scope to put on my model 34 RWS. I figure I would just use it until it break and then send it back and get a brand new scope, they normally last like 1500-2000 shots before they break, and it might take me like a 1 year or two to shoot that many rounds through it. That just what I am sayin. The bushnell air rifle dusk and dawn scope 4-12.

this should be good on your air rifle.

O.K guys prepare to laugh I have a stupid question. Bare with me here. Does a scope with an adj. obj . take care of the parallax problem. I'm asking because I've been looking into the site Huntnful told me about, and had my eye on a bushnell trophey 6-18 x40 with an adj obj. I have looked at this scope before , but I didnt understand what parallax actually meant. Also is this even a good mid priced scope, or should I keep looking.

Im sorry to keep this running on and on, but this whole scope thing is as Huntnful pointed out very expencive, and I would like to get it right. That way I can finally leave this alone atleast untill I start having problems with the hornet.

and as always thank you all very much. You have all been a big help.

antibeous....the answer to your question is yes. The A.O. is for adjusting parallax out of scopes. Most scopes will only adjust to be parallax free down to 50 yards, but I think most Bushnell scopes with A.O. will adjust down to 10 yards or 10 meters. The best Bushnell scopes are the Elite 4200 series and would be my choice if the funds were available. I did think of another choice that would be less expensive, chech out the Weaver Classic Rimfire scopes. I bought a 3-9x32mm A.O. that will adjust to be parallax free down to 10 meters. I did see this scope in a catalog listed as a Rimfire/Airgun/.17 cal. scope, they are right at $200.00.

                                    Good Luck!!

Thanks guys, I have decided to go with the bushnell bannor 4-12x40 as I think it will fit my small budget a little better than would the leupold efr's. though I wish I could afford the leupold. I am currently having a huge problem ordering the bushnell, but I guess you guys can't help me out in that area though, but thanks a bunch for what you could do for me.

Well, for $180.00 - $240.00 you could get a nice Leupold scope with adjustable ocular to get rid of nasty parallax.....WITH ONE BIG ADVANTAGE....LEUOPOLDS WARRENTY!!  It's the best in the business, lens to lens if it brakes do to defective components......fast free repairs for the life of the scope.....even if it's handed down a generation or two.  This makes the scope cost more reasonable...knowing you have good optics, and that when they break they stand behind your original purchase!  I have a cross-man .22 airgun that has enough punch to shoot through 5/8" plywood...it has a Leupold scope......that has never needed re-sighting or repairs......I called Leupold and talked to a sales rep before I made my purchase from a local sporting good store......I use Leupold, or Bushnell 4200 series.

Just my two cents

maybe look at some magnum handgun scopes, they are fairly parallax free, at about 50yards..NO AIRGUN KICKS LIKE A MAGNUM.....even though it's the two way recoil that breaks the cheap scopes.....I think all Leupold scopes are rated for airguns......just as part of the tests the normally perform of their line of scopes.
