Just picked up a Zastava bolt action 22 WMR (also sold as a Remington Model Five) and looking for recommendations on a scope. I'm having a little trouble finding rings for it, but I believe Warne's 7.3/22 should work.
Primary purpose is punching paper at 100 yards, but will be used for the occasional small game hunt.
With the rings, I'm limited to 1" tubes unless someone has a recommendation on 30mm rings that will work on this receiver.
Here is my dilemna. After frequenting this site for some time, my appreciation for quality optics has grown significantly, particularly after picking up a SS HD 1-4x and a 5-20x. My definition of good glass was the Nikon Tactical line
Here is my wish list:
One inch tube
High end magnification around 8-14x
Optics quality equivalent or greater than the SS HD glass (primary factor)
Budget between $500 and $1000
I've just started my hunt, but couple possibilities are the Swarovski's Z3 and Zeiss Conquest HD line, both which are probably overkill for a 22 magnum rifle but hard to argue with the optics quality.
Any other thoughts?

Always remember. you can't hit what you can't see. As far as overkill. A good scope can be moved to other rifles when you need to. You will never want to trade a crapy scope to a nicer rifle. For rimfires the 2-ta scopes make the most sense. 2 -7, 2-8 2.5-10 The low power for the close shots and 10X is about all you need for a rimfire with ranges mostly under 250 yds on game. This may be changed with the introduction of the new Winchester .17WSM once it hits the market. There is a 3-9X36 Swaro Z3 for under $630 on the Samplelist. That scope would be a good fit size wise for the .22 mag. and have very good glass.

Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.
Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow Now the rules have changed again. |

True point. Being able to move the scope to another rifle was in the back of my mind.
One lesson I've learned on this forum is that you can accomplish just as much if not more with lower magnification if you have better glass. Evident when I picked up my 1-4x SS scope Edited by Marine24 - February/28/2013 at 21:35 |
