 Here we go again.

Same ole Stuff again...

So to say I was excited is an understatement.  I have been wanting to get my hands on these since I was very late in finding that they have been out since last Jan-Feb.  In limited supply but people had their hands on them.

So when the package arrived, I warmed my hands took a deep breath and ohh ohh broke the seal of the package slipped my fingers in without asking permission and felt the inside of the box to find to my excitement...

I was of course starting to calm down and notice a few things.

As I lifted the lid I saw the typical package Bubbles, Felt/Cloth, Plastic, and disposable lens caps.  Bushwacker type.

So at this point I am grounded.  My heart is back at normal resting rate and I am ready to start looking at every detail.

First, detail I notice is something I was worried about since the very first time I heard it had exposed controls.  They are not recessed or protected but rather entirely exposed and if you can see from the picture at the bottom they are raised or protruding from the face of the control (usually parallax side on regular scope).

Ok so I believe you should be able to see from these pictures exactly what I am talking about.

So this to me I have seen before on a few types of Gear, Ex. EO-Tech, Elcan, GPS modules.

This however is not in a place I believe it will go un-struck or un depressed.  It is fairly out there and the buttons do not require much effort they will not be set off accidental by placing it on its side but when I laid it down on a pack while mounted on a rifle trying to trigger or depress the controls it was easy, again I was trying to do this.

Ok so here are my good things to say she tracked great and the glass was pure and crisp all the way 1 -7 the eye relief was not to critical and the reticle was simple.  I was very impressed to see no degradation of image across the entire spectrum.

Ok that is all I have to say that is positive so here comes the long part.

Pics are worth 1,000 words.

MADE IN JAPAN as most things are anymore in this optical world, Nitrogen vs. Argon.

1cm@100m Expected

For us who shoot in yards and measure in MOA .3in@100yrds

Nifty, don't know if I like it or not but different than I am used to.  Twist or unscrew and she raises up just enough to slide the battery in and tighten her back up...  Weatherproof for sure...  All the caps will hold out against any water they are very tight and snug.

Let me get off track here for a little bit.

I do have a reason.

I have to this point been very very impressed by Sightron and hope I soon will be impressed by them again.  I have sold many scopes that have been replaced by Sightron SIII and SII Big Sky scopes and again have not run into anything that would have led me to believe that they would ever release anything that was not the highest of quality in function, fit, and optical performance on par with the big names, Hensoldt, Zeiss, Swaro, Kahles, S&B, USO, NF and the lot.

I have not found any scope including this one unable to track to .1mil over an extended period of time.

Back on topic...

You don't have to look close just look and something will be obvious.

Ok, so if you missed it by now, it is because I am not a photographer or an expert optician by any means.  I will use inappropriate terms and not be able to define which lens or lenses are out of place or what the true issue is.

I am trying to show what looks like to me a bottom of an old coke bottle like you would find on the beach etched and polished by sand in the waves.

It is most noticeable to the bottom right continuing from side to side but again mostly or heaviest on the right hand side.

I am hoping this is just some sort of shift that happened in shipping and that the lens it out of place.

I am also hoping that the finished product is without this major eyesore and that it disappears as it is supposed to.

I am putting this up here on the OT because I am an honest person.  I promised a review once delivered and I received it today.

I am not trying to take away from Sightron's Customer Service, In fact I hope they come thru and I will post of their remedy and scream it from the roof tops.

Another thing you will see from the pictures is the HALO that the ilumination brings, in fact the HALO is as bright if not brighter than the Center Dot.

The green at 12o clock with the red dot in the center is from coatings or something it is not present in the scope unless the green illumination is on.

Also to add I cannot get a good sight picture with a camera I never have been able and probably never will.

The issue is very present even against a bright target or even against the blue bright sky.

This reticle is not exactly what I had pictured as far as illumination but once again this could be the issue, the Halo and the glass displacement or defect or whatever it is... DAMMMMMMMnabbit...

I have to believe something in the lens system just got damaged, or as you suggested... maybe left out.  Difficult, for me, to access without "hands on", but very disappointing.

Anxiously awaiting the solution/outcome.  The higher power SIII you mentioned earlier and this one have my interest peeked.

Update.

Spoke to Steven.

I will be shipping this out to them in AM.

I will update.

This is not a known issue.

This is a scope from the later batch and should not have any issues.

I am and will be impressed by the end of this transaction I know.

I have spent some more time with it decided to unbox it and re-mount and try again with some testing. Flawless in mechanics that I can tell so far. Adjustment just spot on.

This is a superb choice and will be a designated PGO/HGO or pig/hog gun optic...

I am pumped...

let us know
the illumination flare is highly concerning to me and would most likely render it useless in real low light hunting use.

It is in their hands right now.

I was told it could be 15 to 20days.

That doesn't make me jump for joy.

I sure hope they can resolve something faster than that.

Now that I think about it I have had warranty with Zeiss and Swaro both took lots longer than 15 to 20days but that was due to abuse not out of the box failure.  I believe those both came in around 2-3months

In a case of a scope being incorrect out of the box I believe the course of remedy should be replace with new, not rework something that has already had issues.

We will see.

I am interested to find out what exactly was wrong with it and how it shipped that way.

At this point I can still not really make up my mind until they tell me what occurred.

As we all know we are not perfect.

Ok so here goes.

The scope they sent me back has a different serial number.  MAGIC

Interesting from two regards one the scope I sent them is not the scope I got back 2 the scope I got has no issues whatsoever.

It is flawless it is perfect, it is exacting, it tracks and is has no color bleed, no issues with the lenses.

Now the interesting part.

They told me that the issue was epoxy that had been displaced the the reticle plane had been bouncing around or that another lense was displaced. as you can see from the pictures the old scope has a lense displaced the new scope has a clear black edge as we have all come to expect when we drop money on a 1-4, 1-6, 1-7, 1-8 you want it to draw your eye to the center and nowhere else.

I am not on the fence as to the scope I have in my hands, it is long, a little heavy, but the lenses are crystal the mag range is what I wanted and the illumination is simple and draws my eye to what I need it to, will I be making 6" hits at 500 no but could I hit a plate at 300 YES.

I am on the GRASS IS GREENER side.

I was not a big Sightron fan, I have come to respect them for what they are and this is my first issue and they handled it WELL.  I am slowing being won over by them.

Number of days for turn around less than 20 days.

I just received the new scope today so I haven't done my typical testing I tracked with it off a Leupold magnet tester that really just allows me to run clicks on a make with a little grid that is suppose to be accurate it puts me in the same spot as a box test each time perfectly.

I also will note that I have 103MOA  more than listed as always.

I have to say this is a LOOONG scope, it also seems heavy but what I believe you get in return is solid.

The controls could be enclosed but than you wouldn't be able to do what you can with it OTF (on the fly).

The glass is SUPERB as I have come to expect with Sightron.

This will fit me for my use with it.

I am giving it a big thumbs up right now I will have to post some more crude pictures of it.

As I look at this I am still wondering what happened with the first one, but as I think of it why not get a new one that has never had issues, I can't say I had a lemon as I only ever had one problem with it, I can't say I would have requested a new scope but I cannot say I am disappointed.

As I see it what I received in this scope is far greater a measure of care and attention or I could just have gotten a lucky one.

As I have now purchased more than half a dozen Sightron SIII scopes I have come to appreciate them for having a tremendous value for the price point, dare I say second to none.

I believe you will be impressed by Sightron with this offering.

I know you will at least be awed by the quality and the glass.

It is built rock solid (lots of weight to it).

I would think of differing the controls but they do what they are suppose to and I haven't really been able to say they are a bad design as far as function.

If you have questions PM me and I will try to answer them.

I will try to post more pics.

I will, I have now mounted this on a Bobro quick release mount and it will see a variety of different recoiling rifles and shotguns.

I will update this once I have some time with it. I am planning on next week a few days I took some much needed time off work so I will spend some family time and then some ME time.
