A question for Chris,Ranburr and all, after all my ranting and raving about the Elite 4200's, I am norrowing down my choice and I am leaning towards the Kahles 3-9x42. Most of you know how fond I am of the Elite 4200's, but I am starting to zero in on the Kahles 3-9x42. My question is simple, based on real life hunting situations, would I be completely satisfied with this choice of Euro optics. I realize in this price range that the competition is about as good as gets,so I won't beat the dead horse with a comparision to the 1" Swarovski( 3-10x42) or a 1" Zeiss. Any hands on experience is what I am looking for. Thanks in advance.
P.S. The only delimma will be is which gun, my 280 Ackley or my 300 Win Mag, I would replace my 4200 with the Kahles with the TDS reticle!!! Don't even go there Chris or Ranburr and say replace both!!!

Roy, I don't personally own any Kahles scopes, but I do know people that do and they like them. I have shot with several and they struck me as having bright clear optics that always returned to zero regardless of the power setting. Chris prefers the Kahles, I prefer the Zeiss Conquest, but price works into my equation. The TDS reticle is a really neat system that few people use to its' full potential. It can actually do more than just hold over. For all practical U.S. hunting situations, I think the Kahles will be right there for you (so would that 4200). I say U.S. hunting because the higher end Swarovski, Zeiss, etc. show why they cost so much when it comes to European style night hunting (not really an issue here). In my opinion, for standard U.S. hunting hours and conditions (between dawn and dusk, inside of 400 yards), you can't get any better performance regardless of price. Versus your 4200, I think the Kahles is made from higher grade components that give it a slight edge. Enjoy your new scope!

Every since they redesigned their scopes a few years ago I have been a big a fan of Kahles. The 42mm objective allows for a larger exit pupil but will still mount with low rings in most application. It is also compact and light weight for a 3-9x42 at 12 inches and 13 ounces. Its superb glass and coatings will blow you away, especially in low light. Combine those features with the TDS reticle and you have a scope that is hard to beat.
