Hi guys, need some help, trying to figure out what parallax to have reset on my 6x36 FX, I'm giving it to my grandson. He's starting NRA rimfire, with 6x the max, I want to give him my 6x. Now the question is, what parallax will allow him to use the scope for practice at 50ft. (indoor range ) and still use it in competition? Would it still be in focus at 75 to 100yds. ? Trying to decide 40,45,or 50yd. parallax ? help please. Going to send it to Leupold soon, got to take it to him in Fl. next month. I guess what I can't figure out is which parallax setting will let him see clearly in focus at 50ft. out to 75 to 100yds.  I just want the kid to have a bright clear in focus scope. Right now he's using an inexpensive BSA, with tape on it to stop at 6x. I have this great FX, that set-up right should work for him. yeah, I'm very happy he wants to shoot , got to help anyway I can. Thanks so much !!!!!

not sure if your scope has sentimental value or not but if it were me I'd feel out the trade in form - http://www.samplelist.com/TradeInForm.aspx, and then apply that to this scope here -

Leupold 6x42 FX-3 Competition Hunter Riflescope Target Dot Leupold 6x42 FX-3 Competition Hunter Riflescope
Stock # - LEU66825
$469.95Add Leupold 6x42 FX-3 Competition Hunter Riflescope to Cart
Optional Accessories:

Free Leupold Items:
  • Lens Pen & Leupold Alumina Threaded Lens Covers
It has the adjustable objective that will serve him better when shooting at various distances.

Another note is that sending it in for a paralax change may take longer than a month to get it back, i know when i called about a change a few months ago they were running 4-6 weeks.

This scope here would also work and has great glass for the money.  It also has a focus/paralax adjustment

The SS focus's down to 10 yards as well.  It would be a great rimfire scope.

I would think that at the low magnification of 6X  and a 36mm objective parallax and most distances would not be a big issue. To remain in focus from 50 yds out to 100yds I would say that a 75 yds focus would be best and not the  40 to 50yds you suggest.
