Does anyone know the difference between Nikon Force XR and Nikon Encore scopes? Is one an older model? Or are they the same?

Thanks.

I'm also curious about this product change.
Also, not to hijack the thread, but what would be the advantages to the Nikon over a similar Weaver product? I do like the Nikon's BDC and all, but it seems that there are just about no reviews on the Nikon handgun scopes in general! I wonder what the consensus is on this...Sad

Nikon Force Xr EER handgun scopes are New - so new that if you didnt go to "Shot Show" you proabably have not seen one. Im not sure if they are even available yet call SWFA to find out.
So far my favorite handgun scope is an Aimpoint. I use a 9000L with two 30mm rings on a TC Encore pistol and like that scope a lot.  I could sure see trying one of the Nikon 2.5-8 BDC reticle scopes but I will say that the 3-12 x32Burris  Balistic Plex that I had was quie useless over about 6x because eye relief changed drastically and holding the scope where it would focus would have had it in my face constantly therefore I am a bit shy of thinking I can get too much power out of one.  You might search some of Ernie Bishops threads on handgun scopes he shoots some ultra long range with some altered rifle scopes with good success.

Excellent.

I was just curious because I'm thinking of a scout scope for my Mosin-Nagant. I've boiled it down to two pistol scopes- either the Weaver 2.5-8, or the new Nikon Force XR 2.5-8 (which will be out in about a month). I like all the features on the Nikon such as hand-adjustable turrets, the bcd reticle, and the quick focus eyepiece thing (is that even necessary?). The eye relief on the Nikon is also down to 12in, whereas the weaver needs to be 16in away from my face (maybe a little too far). The parallax of the nikon is also set at 100yds, whereas the weaver is set at 50yds. I'm planning on using this "scout rifle" set up at about 100 yards, and with a little luck I was hoping to go past that. But who knows.Roll Eyes

But in the end, maybe the simpler design of the weaver wins out in terms on long term durability? Not sure if the Nikon is also a "one piece tube" design, or how much that matters.

My apologies for all the questions and such, I'm still quite new to the optical side of things!

I'm also considering the Leupold FX-II Scout. It's a 2.5X fixed- I wonder how much distance I could get out of this scout? I have heard of people putting these on M1a socoms and reaching out to 400yds, but a mosin being a 54r might have a bit more in it?
Not sure...

The Encore line was an IER scope, the Newer Force is EIR, longer eye relief distance.

Interesting didn't know that info. I have both the 2X and 2.5-8x Nikons and love them. For the price I don't think they can be beat--
