I would like some feedback on scope selection. I have looked at several models/companies and am undecided on which would be the best selection. The Burris, Bushnell's, Simmons, etc. I want a variable power with 42 to 50mm objective. I can spend up tp $500. The scope will be mounted on a Remington 700 CDL in .270 calibur. All advice will be appreciated.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I just don't think you can do better than a 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest for $400.00.  Actually, you can do better, but not without spending a lot more money.  I have this scope on a half dozen rifles including a .270 and I am extremely pleased.  I got rid of a few Burris and Leupold scopes and switched to all Zeiss.  Burris, Leupold, Bushnell Elites, Nikon Monarchs are all quality scopes in your price range, but for my money it is Zeiss all the way.  Incidentally, I know what an ADL and a BDL are, what is a CDL?

Thanks ranburr & Chris for your input, it is greatly appreciated. The Remington CDL (Classic Deluxe) is Remingtons new offering in the 700 action. It has a 2" longer barrel than the BDL in .270, 30.06 & 7mag, and at a reasonable price. Hopefully it will be as accurate as my old custom deluxe that I foolishly sold some years ago.

Neat.  I found this at Remington.com

Firearms: Centerfire Rifles

Model 700™ CDL™

Model 700 CDL

The newest member of the Model 700 family, the Remington® Model 700 CDL (Classic Deluxe) offers renowned accuracy in a classically styled design. The traditional straight-comb American walnut stock includes a satin finish, finely cut checkering, right-handed cheek piece, black fore-end tip and grip cap, and sling swivel studs. The satin blued finish of the barreled action and the jeweled bolt body completes the tasteful design.

Like all Model 700 rifles, this one shoots as good as it looks. Standard calibers feature 24-inch carbon steel barrels, while magnum calibers sport 26-inch barrels to maximize ballistic performance. Each barrel is clean without sights and the receiver is drilled and tapped for sights. The hinged floor plate magazine has a four round capacity in standard calibers and a three round capacity in magnum calibers. Finished off with the revolutionary R3™ recoil pad, even the unwelcome "punch" of the high-powered magnums is significantly diminished.

Take an interactive Zoomview™ tour of the Model 700's design features.
