I have a choice of either a Leica 1200 LRF or a Leupold RX-1000. Both similar price, (Leica is more) Which should I buy?

Leica CRF or LRF??? Just want to make sure it's not a typo? LRF is an older model. |

you'd be lucky to get 700 yds out of the leo, but it has some other nice features, if your shooting long range then its the decider. The swaro I use will hit 1900 yds. on a bright reflective target, and easily 1200 yds on something like a dark cow.

My vote is Lecia either way but just wanted to check and see which model
your really talking about.
I've owned a Leupold RX-IV for a little over two weeks and it did not fit my needs. I know your interested in the RX-1000 but I believe the IV's are supposed to be a step up from the RX-1000. In my experience I could not get it range anything past 600+ yards if even that. I called and worked with Leupold CS via my cell phone while at our deer camp; they had me turn off all the features just to be able to reach out to beyond 500 yards. The TBR didn't seem to work as advertised either. Bottom line it was too much work to try unsuccessfully to achieve what Leupold advertise. I had a second device sent to me and had the same issues. Finally I spent the extra money on a Lecia CRF1200 and it was one of the better hunting gear choices I've made in quite awhile. It's small, light, fast, and accurate. It's advertised to reach out to 1200 yards and with a steady hand I can reach out beyond 1300+ yards. The red LED display is very easy to read. I can go on and on but I think you get the idea. If it's the LRF1200 your looking at I'm sure it's very good too but I believe it's older and a little bulkier than the CRF model(s). Happy Hunting!!! |

Yes it's the LRF, not a typo.
I know it's the older model, but for $300. It's price is right. Leupold is $ 275.
Thanks

You'll be happy with the Leica.
Side note: to save a buck my cousin bought a Leupold RF last year and had pretty much the same kind of issues I did. |

Thanks...I was leaning toward the Leica, and this helps.
Reviews on the Leupold pretty much say the same as posted here.

I know of three different people that couldn't get the Leupy (RX4) to work for them.
The Leica should win this showdown easily.

I have had a Leica LRF 1200 for years and I love it! I have read that Leica is coming out with a 1600 yard rangefinder that has angle compensation, barometric pressure, temperature correction and ballistic corrections. It's the same size as the 1200 CRF.(the newer series). Sounds like a heck of a rangefinder that fits in your shirt pocket! Just might have to replace the old LRF this fall! |

I could not get the Leupold to work either. What a POS is all I can say about it. Bought the Leica CRF 1200, and only got good things to say about it.

Wow, my Leupy RX-IV is nothing but pleasure to use. Does everything I need and does it well. I just wish I saved a bit more and bought a RF Binos - one less thing to carry around.
