Just bought a remington xr-100 22-250

looking for opinions on scope choices

will be mainly shooting paper and dogs from 200 out to the occasional 500.

Looking at either the nikon monarch 6.5-20 50
499.00 from the samplelist

or a local shop has a leo vx-l 4.5-14 56
on sale for 679

any help would be greatly appreciated
as i am rather green in this area

VX-I is inferior to the Nikon.

Well, even though I am not a real Leupold fan, that's different.  For me, there is not enough differential to make up for the difference in price... I would probably still go with the Nikon, many will disagree, but the Leupold is a nice scope.  I actually liked the one I have played with.  I've not had them side by side, but there was no flash of brilliiance which would proclaim the Leupold highly superior to me.  There are some reticle and turret choices with Leupold which increase its attractiveness.  Less than $200 difference.  Hard choice.  I still would probably choose the Nikon.

If you like the BCD, the Varmint reticle Leupold has works very good on a 22-250.

http://swfa.com/Bushnell-6-24x40-Elite-4200-Rifle-Scope-P254.aspx just a suggestion....the NIKON also would be a good pick. IMHO of course.....
