I took the X-bolt out for the first sighting-in. It's a shooter! The good news is it shoots sub-moa (3/4") 5 shot groups.
The bad news is that it hates my favorite hunting load, Winchester XP3 150 grain. Apparently it loves plain ol' Remington Core-locs. Hopefully I can find a premium bullet it likes. I know core-locs will hammer whitetail with no problems but I've always preferred to use better bullets... just in case. I haven't ventured into reloading yet so I'll have to stick with factory loads for now.
Anyone want to buy 2 boxes of Winchester .270 XP3 150 grain? |

Nice group heavishot! Funny, my savage 270 hates corelocks so I decided to reload from the beginning. All seems to be fine using 130gr ballistic tip and SSTs.
Tell us more on your set-up. Benchrest or bags? etc.

Yeah, I may have to see if I can get SST's or Interbond's from Hornady. My site-in setup is the MTM Site-in-Clean rest. I add sandbags from the gun range to help stabilize it. It gives a pretty solid rest. It's not iron-clad, 100% solid but it seems to work pretty well and all my cleaning gear is handy. I also have one of those long, ballistic shooting bags. It works pretty well but I think the MTM is more stable.

I am currently using two bags stacked under the forestock and just shouldering the butt.
Your grouping has mine beat. I have the next level down in MTM trays. Its longer but slightly narrower than yours but with the same black brackets. I haven't tried to shoot out of it yet, just clean and tune. maybe I'll try shooting out of it next trip.
I am interested to see if it is me or the gun limiting the tightness of my groups, I suspect its me. Check out my posting in this forum titled "1st loads using RE17 in my 270Win" if you haven't already.
Yesterday Graf's got in Hornady 130gr SSTs, $26.99 per 100. Interbonds are more expense, in the $40+ dollar range for 100. I only bought them because I could not get the SSTs in 130gr and their ballistic and loading are similar. LOL its just like washing your car to make it rain. I've waited 4 weeks for somebody to get 130gr SSTs and as soon as I bought the more expense Interbonds...bingo SSTs show up....go figure

My buddy's new 30-06 x-bolt loves core-lokts and especially my favorite hunting bullet, Fusions.

I went back to the range this weekend and put a box of Tubb's Final Finish ammo through it. The barrel should be broken in after that. I also tested some more ammo. It seems to like Winchester E-tip 130gr, XP3 130gr, and Federal Accubond 140gr well enough. Oddly it didn't like Hornady Interbond 130gr. I'll probably do some further testing to verify those results.

Back to the range today after getting the barrel clean enough to use as a straw. I got very good results with several different rounds. Looks like XP3 130gr. is the winner!
130gr. Winchester E-tip... 1.373" (possible flier) 130gr. Hornady Interbond.... .913" 130gr. Federal Barnes TSX.... .823" (2 shots) 140gr. Federal Accubond.... .543" (2 shots / 3rd shot flier) 130gr. Winchester XP3... .523" It's curious how different loads have different point of impact elevations. My last test session showed E-tips shooting higher than all others too. |

Don't worry about the high ones if they group the best just adjust your scope.

I will, it just seems odd that 2 rounds of the same weight and same starting velocity would be so far apart at 100yds. Guns are funny creatures.
