I took my new Swarovski rangefinder out for a test around the official sunset time for this area (as published by MT FWP). As far as live critters go, I could only find one deer out then - a doe at 194 yards. It was easy to range. I also ranged a densely forested summit at 1554 yards, the 4:55 Delta flight to Salt Lake City at 1274 yards (plus 150-200 mph???) and various other objects - most with no problem. I aimed the glass at a dark, but snowy hillside 700 yards away and could make out details quite easily. The letters on a stop sign at 515 yards were quite clear.
The only thing I noticed was that after extended glassing with that monocular, my vision took a few seconds to adjust back to non-aided viewing. Keeping my other eye open helped. Using either eye for glassing was effective. The testing conditions were enhanced by drinking lots of coffee all day beforehand, going out when it was -13 F, and not bracing the rangefinder or using a tripod. In short, I doubt I'll be lugging any binos around next season. |

Yes, the 8x30. I bought it to provide the accuracy I need for 300-600 yard shots but man, it's just fun to play with. I'll probably need a new battery before long.

i got to take that exact piece of equipment for a "test drive" courtesy of swfa, and i have to tell you that the swaro is the nicest piece of glass i have ever put to my eye, that thing was excellent in all aspects i was very impressed with it, i dont have a need in my present hunting for such a device, but if i ever did i would certainly buy that one excellent product.
