I have a .22 caliber Ruger Mark 3 Hunter 6 7/8" barrel and would like to put a scope on it. I've looked at the Nikon 2x but when looking through it I don't see any magnification at all. The view was clear, crisp and bright but when focusing across the store at some small print I couldn't see that it was magnifing at all. So I then looked through a Leupold and it seemed to be exactly the same. So what gives on these 2x scopes. My belief is that the target should appear 2x closer. I choose these because of thier compact size but now I'm considering a variable 2-6 or something in this range, only problem is they're larger and heavier.
Has anyone had experience with the Weaver Classic 2.5-8 x 28mm I've read the upper end Weaver's are nice scopes. I've also looked a the Bushnell Trophy 2-6 x 32mm and Bushnell Elite 3200 2-6 x 32mm and a few Burris in the same range. Anyway any suggestion on a good scope for my .22 pistol. I want a good one and not some cheapo but don't want to break the bank either.
feed back will be appreciated

I believe if you actually sit down with the 2x scope, you will see magnification. I also think that the scopes your looking at nikon & leupold are excellent . I own the leupold in 2x and love it, I'm not a big fan of variables on pistols, especially for hunting. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the feed back its appreciated.
I once again went and looked through the Nikon 2x20, even had the sales person in the gun store take a look. Same result just can't see enough mag to justify the bucks. I would rather stick with a low power probably would never use more than 4x. However it seems that you jump from the 2x into the variable scopes. Therefore I'm considering the following and will use them between the 2.5 and 4x range.
Nikon #6569 2-8x28mm
Bushnell Elite 3200 2-6x32 mm
Bushnell Trophy 2-6x32mm
Nikon 1.5-4.5x28 I wish I could look thru this one it has a good mag range. Can't find one to look through in town. Anybody out there have them and can report on it would be appreciated.
I like the mag range of the bushnell and actually the trophy had good views even tough it can boost the fully multi-coat lens that Nikon does.
Any more input would be appreciated on any of the above, I'm open to your opinions even more so than the salesman behind the counters.
Thanks

Shooting with higher magnification will many times increase your group size because of over correction. This exaggeration is even more prevalent in handguns.
