I'm thinking about a scope upgrade.  My deer guns are a Remington 1187 SP Deer and a Knight Disc.  The 1187 has a VX-1 3 -9 X 40 while the Knight has a BSA Catseye 3-10 X 44.  I use the 1187 more and was planning to put the VX-1 on the Knight and then a new scope on the 1187.

I was considering a VX-2 3-9 X 40.  I know the VX-2 series has better lense coatings, but don't really know how much of an upgrade that would be.

Also, I see that Leupold now has the VX-1s with 50 mm objectives.  I'm not a huge fan of big objectives, but was wondering which would transmit light better, a VX-2 with 40mm objective or a VX-1 with a 50mm objective?

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I'm not opposed to other good name brands (Nikon, Burris, etc.) but both of these guns have pretty good recoil - so the standard 3 " eye relief isn't enough.  So please don't recommend a scope that compromises on eye relief, magnification or light gathering ability. Thanks.

The VX-II will transmit more light if you have the scopes set to emit the same size exit pupil.  The VX-I 50mm will be a little brighter if you compare them both on 9x.

I think you are right on track with your plan to get a VX-II 3-9x40, Leupold has the best eye relief around.
