Heys guys/Gals. I'm new here, and I've done some reading and searching, but I'm looking for some more suggestions. And heck we like to talk
scopes so why not another topic.... I have a Thompson/Center Encore with basically two set-ups. One is a 26" .300 win Mag heavy barrel and a Leupold VX-II 3x9-40mm. That is my Deer set-up. My other is the same rifle but a 22-250 26" heavy barrel intended for varmints. I need a good scope for it (I was using the Leupold but it did not have the magnification needed (ok wanted but whatever ;) ). I could find lots of options BUT my barrel/receiver is Stainless Steel so I need a decent long range scope ( tops 15-20x apx. ) that is silver. Also sub $300 would be nice. Any suggestions? I gotta say the nikon titanium LOOKS cool, but it is probably mainly marketing hype...no doubt a good scope I'm sure but for $500+..ehh I'm leaning towards a Weaver grand slam 6-20 but I'm open to suggestions here. What say you? |

I had just worked my way down to your post when you posted again. Sorry for the delay in replying....this time of year is crazy for us .
There are not many choices that fit your criteria (15x-20x high end, silver, $300. and under). Your assumption concerning the Nikon Titanium is correct as it has the same glass and coatings as the Monarch just a high price tag for the Titanium parts.
The Weaver Grand Slam you picked is tops in quality, glass is super bright and clear and the adjustments are second to none. Cosmetically the silver Grand Slam looks very nice on a stainless rifle because of its two tone styling. You made an excellent choice and you won't be disappointed. |

No worries man. I know how it goes! I got the weaver for $275 Brand new so I think it was a decent deal... I could have stretched for a little more but even with that My choices were limited... darn stainless barrels with walnut stocks... if it were stainless/synthetic then the silver would not have mattered and choices would have been a lot more. As it was the ones that would have worked for me were some Zeiss, leupold, and weaver, and the weaver was the only one I could afford. I'll have it tomorrow. Can't wait to test it out.... Thanks guys. |
