Hello,
I recently purchased a Remington 700 Stainless Special chambered in .308. For all intents and purposes, it is a target rifle deserving of a proper scope. I was just wondering what would be a good compromise for target shooting from 300-500 yards and for white-tailed deer hunting. (Although my rifle's heavy to lug around. 9lbs!). I am willing to spend in the 300-500 dollar range. I have been doing some research and I really like Nikon and Leupold. Would a 4-16 variable do the trick? or is a 6X maginification more suited for the verasatily of use. I am an optics newbie and would greatly appreciate any suggestions! Thanks, Matt |

I feel that a scope in the 4-12 or 4-16 range is the perfect all around do everything scope if I had to pick one scope. Nikon and Leupold are very good choices as both offer top of the line scopes in your price range.
Nikon 5.5-16.5x44 Monarch, A/O, Matte, Plex......$399.99 .....super value. Has low profile finger adjustable target knobs, adjustable objective for parallax, fully multi-coated lenses and lifetime warranty.
Leupold 4.5-14x40 VX-III, Matte, Duplex.....$489.99 No parallax, new redesigned finger adjustable windage and elevation and new index matched lens system and the Leupold lifetime warranty. |
